Finished yesterday’s SED with an hour to spare (again). I see a pattern developing. This one was a pirate story, and I’m not going to post any excerpts because I’m going to expand this one into a full-fledged story. I already have two potential markets in mind. Anyone got any good pirate stories they recommend I read to get in a pirate-y mood? Girl pirate stories would be a plus, since mine’s going to be about an all-girl band of pirates.

Are you going to try for that anthology contest at Flashing Swords, with the cool picture? I wrote one as a SED with that picture in mind. It ended up being a sequel to “The Widow and the Stranger.” Sadly, I think it’s too much of a sequel to stand on its own.
I might play with it some more, though. After SED is over.

I was thinking about that, but unfortunately, my pirate world doesn’t look anything like the one in that picture. I plan on expanding it quite a bit after SED is over.

Well, there’s the anthology available from Fantasist Enterprises, featuring the work of yours truly: http://www.fantasistent.com/books/anthologies/SAILS.php
And there’s also the Captain Blood stories, by Rafael Sabatini. Pretty much the quintessence of swashbuckling. These were later made into the Errol Flynn movies that defined the genre and seep from every pore of the modern pirate films. Good reads. Recommended!

Thanks for the recommendations, Jens! Looks like I need to get to reading!
