Well, I didn’t get much writing done today (yet, anyway), but I did get a lot done around the house. (1) I finally found some inexpensive frames for some ’40s b-movie lobby cards I’ve had lying around for the last year or so (if you’re curious, the movies are I Accuse My Parents, Men on Her Mind, and The Lady Confesses. I also have some similar posters I need to get frames for, but can never find anything quite the right size (14 x 36 inches, apparently the most impossible to find frame size ever!). I only paid $10 for each of the posters, so I don’t want to go blow $50+ on frames for ‘em. (2) Got a new shag rug for my bedroom. The black one wasn’t doing it for me. This new one’s a mixture of hot pink and white (if you hate hot pink, your head would explode if you walked into my apartment). (3) I washed the sinkload of dishes that had been piling up all week.
The Boyfriend is coming in from a business trip around midnight or so tonight (possibly later). He’s been gone all week, and I’ve missed him! I have to leave for his apartment soon to let him in since I have his access card thing to get in the building.
I did do something writing-related, though. I revised and submitted a short story to an anthology whose deadline is tomorrow. I didn’t get a chance to get any crits from my fellow writers’ group members, but maybe the antho will dig it. Or maybe at least they’ll send me some helpful feedback in their rejection letter, if I’m lucky.
There are few things more depressing than a form rejection.
I’ve also been reading Hard Love, a YA novel a fellow WI member loaned me. Good reading, different than I expected, but in a good way. I’d never read an actual novel that dealt with zine culture, and as a soon-to-be-former distro owner, I thought that was a pretty awesome angle to include.
That’s it for now. Gotta get over to The Boyfriend’s house. Maybe I’ll get some writing done over there, or maybe I’ll just waste my brain on his cable TV.

I finally finished revising the YA story and submitted it to another market. Sweet!
That’s about all the news I have right now. Now, off to the orthodontist!

Well, I didn’t finish my robot/zombies story last night as planned, but I did finish it JUST NOW!!! All I have to do is revise it, fix any loose ends there may be, cut out extra junk, and maybe chop off about 600 words.
Now, onto another story, but first, I need to let my iBook rest. The fans have been going at full-speed for quite some time now . . .
Later . . .

I’m am this close to finishing my robot-husband, zombie-killin’-b-movie-actress story! I will finish it tonight, or else! Seriously, this thing should be finished in less than 600 words from now, and it is going to be AWESOME!

There are three anthologies I want to submit something to that all close on 9/30. Crunch time! Two I already have stories started for, the third, I really, really want to be a part of, but I’m coming up with nothing to fit their theme (and it’s an awesome theme). I’ll just have to put my fingers to the keyboard and press on, get some fast second opinions, and see what happens.
Also, I submitted my orphaned flash piece mentioned in the last post to an online market. I’ll let ya know how that goes . . .

Well, I think a zine that accepted a flash piece of mine back in May or June has folded. Their website no longer exists, so I’m thinking they went bye-bye.
It’s disappointing to say the least, but I guess now I have another free story to shop around. Always the hopeless optimist, aren’t I?

So I’m almost done revising the YA story. I ended up re-writing more scenes that I’d planned. It’s around 4,400 words right now. I may have to chop off about 400 words, just because I like to keep things concise. Hopefully I can finish it up tonight or tomorrow, then I have a couple of other stories I need to finish and then polish.
I’m really looking forward to picking up on a story I abandoned when the 3-Day Novel event came up. It involves zombies, a missing robot husband, and a mad-scientist in love (or possibly just lust). The bad thing about going back to unfinished stories is that I rarely make notes about where I was headed or even write a brief summary. I just assume I’m smart enough to remember it all, which is rarely the case . . . :\

Got a form rejection this morning. Ain’t that swell? I’m really not too crushed with this one because I’m really hoping another market I submitted the same story to will accept it. I just figured you shouldn’t put all your proverbial eggs in one basket. It’s the fourth rejection for this story (my fishsticks story, for those of you who’ve critiqued it). It’s been revised four times, and I’m really happy with it where it is. It’s a supernatural/comedy/revenge story. With fishsticks as a plot device. I think one thing that might make it a hard sell is that the narrator is not the protagonist—he’s actually a pretty static character. But I truly feel it’s a strong story, so guess I’ll just have to wait and see what the other market I sent it to says.

Went shopping with The Mom this morning. I rarely go shopping just to go shopping. I usually go into a store with a predetermined purpose, like “I need kitty litter,” or “I need Pee-wee’s Playhouse on DVD (like I need another hole in the head).” Anyway, it was fun.
I made some progress on the YA story. I still have a ways to go, though. The Boyfriend and I watched the original King Kong on TV (yay for free basic cable!). Such a fun movie!
Rio has yet to mark anything else as his territory (so far). Now, back to my story-revising . . .
